I would have beat the hell out of her for 1. having sex at 16 2. Having sex in my house 3. for having sex with another girl. Not all of us got our cherries busted at 16. I was a virgin til I was 20. She totally disrespected the fact that she was in her grandmothers house and got caught. She probably thought grandma was too old to beat that ass. Age aint nothin but a number.

I agree wholeheartedly with being able to discipline your kids as you see fit. However you choose to do it is your business. The issue at hand is the fact that she beat the girl until she needed to go to the hospital. That is where you have to draw the line. Not only is it traumatizing to the girl, it also brings forth resentment later on down the line. No one knows for sure the reason the grandmother reacted the way she did, whether it was her sexual orientation or if it was because it was in her house. Either way she overdid it. What was the lesson she taught her granddaughter? The only lesson i can see her grandchild getting out of this is not to have sex in your parent/guardian(s) house. She could have used an alternative way such as lecturing her about respect, or just simply telling her she has to go because she won’t tolerate such disrespect in her household. Now she has to face the possibility of jailtime and court costs. To all the people on here applauding the grandmother and calling the child names and saying that she deserved it because she was too young anyway: (if you have children) are you saying you are willing to go to jail for something as simple as being “disrespected” to teach your child a lesson? And are we not all hypocrites in and of ourselves? As someone mentioned before, were you not having sex at 16? And if you were you were either at your own house or at your partners house, or was everybody having sex in the backseat of cars or outside? So it’s ok if you disrespected someone else’s parents house just as long as it wasn’t your own? Or it’s ok if you’re child disrespects someone else’s house just so long as it’s not yours? The issue is the grandmother went overboard for something minor, she didn’t commit a crime she committed a natural act. Her punishment was being beaten with a cane and belt. It could have been worse. It could have been with a guy and unprotected and she could have gotten pregnant or even worse than that she could have gotten a disease she cannot get rid of. Neither one of their actions were very smart. But for every action there is a reaction. Who’s to say that child won’t use her own grandmother’s cane to beat her to death?

I agree with everyone who says that granny went too far. I don’t know why but I really don’t see this whole thing as a big deal lol. I understand as a parent (or grandparent in this case) catching your 16 year old in bed with someone can be traumatic, and here it was another female so granny probably damn near had a heart attack lol. But seriously, what are we talking about here? How many of us were having sex at 16? If you didn’t do it at your house, or at their house, where did you do it? Beating the girl until she had to be rushed to the hospital is too much. As for the issue of whether this was because of the mere fact that the girl was gettin her lil nasty on in granny’s house or if it was because she was with another girl…. I say both. I know I for one, as a bisexual female, have obviously dealt with rejection because of my sexual preference. I know how much it hurts to feel like you can’t tell the people closest to you about one of the most important things going on in your life at the moment, because you don’t think they will understand. It’s a tough thing to deal with. So granny taking a cane to that girl’s behind… most likely didn’t do anything but anger her and make her feel even more guilty about her personal choices and how she chooses to live her life. Everyone has felt discrimination and we all know that it sucks and it hurts. But yet we continue to punish each other for our personal choices, beliefs, and lifestyles. How does that make ANY kind of sense if we know what it feels like firsthand?
